Why do I lose communication with my HP DeskJet Printer?

This problem is sometimes seen with the HP DeskJet 600 family of printers and can normally be simply fixed by turning the bi-directional communication, between PC and printer, off.  To do this locate the the file hpfcfg0x.exe (normally located in the c:\windows\system directory), where x is a number relating to the version of this program.   This program simply edits the ini files.  So all you have to do is select bi-directional communication to be off.

If you are still experiencing problems, then the following will also help.   Make a backup copy of the win.ini file and then insert the load command into the win.ini as follows and save it.

top of Win.ini file before editing top of Win.ini file after editing
[windows]
run=
load=
[windows]
run=
load=spool32.exe

you must then reboot the system after saving the file.
