This problem is sometimes seen with the HP DeskJet 600 family of printers and can normally be simply fixed by turning the bi-directional communication, between PC and printer, off. To do this locate the the file hpfcfg0x.exe (normally located in the c:\windows\system directory), where x is a number relating to the version of this program. This program simply edits the ini files. So all you have to do is select bi-directional communication to be off.
If you are still experiencing problems, then the following will also help. Make a backup copy of the win.ini file and then insert the load command into the win.ini as follows and save it.| top of Win.ini file before editing | top of Win.ini file after editing |
| [windows] run= load= |
[windows] run= load=spool32.exe |
you must then reboot the system after saving the file.
